August 2010 Swap Saver of the Month Jody

Jody married her high school sweethearts, Travis 13 years ago. Their total wedding cost was less than $50! Jody wore a simple white dress and they were married at a park in their hometown.

Jody tries to save money every day. If something needs to be fixed, she researches the problem on the Internet and figures out how to fix it herself (that is, if her Dad can't tell her how to fix it first!) Other than fellow Swap Savers, Jody is the only person she knows that actually goes to the library! She gets books and DVDs on all sorts of subjects all for free of course.

If it was an option Jody would prefer to have the digital antenna for TV, but the signal broadcast from the picture is garbled. Instead Jody has basic limited cable and basic internet. Most of the shows on standard cable that she likes she is able to watch online on the stations web page rather than paying out the wazoo for the extra cable channels. Her husband is also always trading movies and TV series on DVD with his co-workers.

Jody trades items with friends, coworkers, and other family members. She also sells or purchases items on eBay. When she needs something she researches prices online, always comparing total costs including shipping vs going to a local store to buy it. Often times Jody will find it cheaper on Amazon or eBay.

When Jody goes shopping at the store she is always on the lookout for clearance items. She also combines manufactures coupons with Extra Care Bucks Coupons at CVS. Every Sunday morning she watches CBS Sunday Morning while looking at the sales ads & cutting out coupons. As far as coupons and shopping goes, Jody and her sister will call or text each other their savings. Of course they are happy the other one saved money, but they still both want to be the bigger saver!

Jody cooks dinner at home every night and takes leftovers for lunch the next day to work. For as long as she can remember, Jody does her own manicures/pedicures. In fact she has NEVER been to a salon to get them done. Her nails are real and she receives compliments on them all the time. If a bottle of nail polish is more than $2 or $3, she will not buy it, unless of course there are coupons and/or it's on clearance!
